Event: RISE-UP Poster Presentation

Date: August 27, 2008

Time: 1 pm - 3 pm

CEED undergraduate students conducting research in the summer and previous academic year in various engineering laboratories will present a research poster. Nineteen CEED students will be presenting their posters. Research sponsored by Intel and NSF.

Event: Resume Workshop

Date:September 7, 2009

Time: TBD

The purpose of this workshop is to help the entering transfer students create their resume.

 

Event: Resume Critique

Date: October 7, 2009

Time: 12 pm - 7 pm

Students will be meeting one-on-one with company representatives to refresh and tailor their resumes and get valuable information on how to best present themselves through their resumes. The goal is for students to prepare themselves for the Engineering Career Fair on October 21-22, 2009.

Estimated number of impacted CEED undergraduate students: 150

Industry Participation: one or more industry representatives from each company meet one-on-one with students to review and recommend edits on student resumes.

Event: Interviewing Techniques

Date: October 13, 2009

Time: 6 pm - 8 pm

This workshop is designed to help students become successful at interviewing. Students will learn techniques need to be successful interviews in a behavioral and technical interview.

Estimated number of impacted CEED undergraduate students: 125

Industry Participation: one or more companies to conduct the workshop and/or sponsor dinner.

Event: IAB Meeting

Date: October 20, 2009

Time: 12:30 pm - 3 pm

Fall planning meeting. All Industry Advisory Board members should attend and/or send an alternate representative from their company.

 

Event: Corporate Gamesmanship

Date: October 20, 2009

Time: 4 pm - 9:30 pm

This event will consist of several components. Industry participation is requested for all areas.

a. Information Session - Set up in career fair style, CEED students will have the opportunity to speak to our industry partners in a pre-screening situation and gain valuable insight on how to position themselves for the next step toward interviews.

b. Interviewing - Well prepared students will be given the opportunity to participate in an actual interview that can lead to summer internships or full-time positions.

c. Simulated Interviewing - This component will provide less prepared students the opportunity to participate in a simulated interview and to gain insightful feedback on their performance.

d. Business Etiquette Workshop

f. "Why Go to Graduate School" Workshop

Event: Scholarship Banquet

Date: November 20, 2009

Time: 6 pm - 9 pm

The support of industry in form of scholarships or IAB presence at the banquet will help UCLA CEED recognize about eighty undergraduate and graduate scholars as well as recognize our K-12 students and teachers. As we all know, the competition for technical talent is global in nature and increasingly intense. This event offers industry the opportunity to interact with and motivate the high achieving upcoming generation of engineers. Estimated number of impacted CEED undergraduate students: 80.

Estimated number of impacted K-12 students: 6

Scholarship Contribution: As decided by company

Event Cost: IAB Member: $800/table with 2 company representatives

Non-IAB Member: $850/table

Event: Corporate Round Table

Date: January 20, 2010

Time: 6 pm - 9:30 pm

This event is designed to maximize interactions between corporate representatives and over 100 CEED undergraduate and graduate engineering students. Estimated number of impacted CEED undergraduate students: 140. Participants in this event will receive the following benefits:

    • Exchange information about academic and career planning
    • Meet students with a specific interest in your company
    • Enjoy a wonderful buffet dinner and dessert
    • Receive an updated Resume Book and CD for CEED Engineering Students

Estimated number of impacted CEED students: 175 students

Event Cost: IAB Member: $500/table w/2 company representatives

Non-IAB Member: $550/table

 

Event: IAB Meeting

Date: April 16, 2010

Event: Program for Accelerating Community College Engineers and Scientists (PACES)

Date: April 24, 2010

Time: 11:00 am - 6:00 pm

This event is designed to help community college students learn about the engineering and computing core classes, national research laboratories, career options in engineering and computing, admissions requirements, financial aid, and meet with recent successful transfer students.

Estimated number of impacted CEED prospective undergraduate students: 50.

Industry Participation: Host "Careers in Engineering" workshop; host table at info session during lunch.

Event: SMARTS Industry-Student Exchange Luncheon

Date: July 2010

Time: 12:30 pm - 2:45 pm

Each year, industry participates in this event by demonstrating corporate displays and leading round table discussions over lunch on careers in math, science, and engineering during the SMARTS program.

Estimated number of impacted students: 40.

Industry Participation:

1) Host a lunch table. Students will take the opportunity to ask you questions about your company, your industry, your specific job, your lifestyle as an engineer, your career path, and your educational background.

2) Bring an interactive display. Before sitting down to lunch, students will view different company displays, similar to those at college career fairs, thereby allowing them to learn about the company's mission and its products.

Industry Participation: Host a table with 2 company reps.
