On February 27th, 2016 and March 5,2016, parents, teachers, competition judges, and students came together for the MESA Day High School Preliminary Competition and MESA Day Middle School Preliminary Competition respectively.

Both days began with high energy and great enthusiasm as 9th – 12th grade students from Academy of Science and Engineering, City Honors, Crenshaw, Dorsey, Fairfax, Hamilton, Inglewood, Los Angeles Center for Enriched Study, Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, Lawndale, Los Angeles, Morningside, UCLA Community, University, and Westchester high schools met at Alexander Hamilton high school, and 6-8th grade students from Burroughs, Cochran, Crozier, Emerson, LACES, Monroe and Parent K-8 met at Webster middle school where they gathered for a day of friendly competition to demonstrate their Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) skills.

The competition categories included Civil Structures, Balsawood Plane, Model Science of the Heart, Mousetrap Car, Solo Math, Team Math Quest, EggXpress, Speak Out, and Prosthetic Arm.

After arduous hours of hard work and dedication, the winners were acknowledged for their ingenuity, expertise, and talent in STEM. High school students who placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in each of the preliminary competition categories will participate in the MESA Day Regional competitions. The high school competition will be held on April 9, 2016, at California State University, Long Beach while the middle school competition will be held on April 23, 2016 at UCLA.Congratulations to all of the students, teachers, and parents who participated and best of luck to those going on to the regional competition.
